Lipstick Under My Burkha denied certification: Prakash Jha bold statement that he doesn’t feels targeted by the Censor Board
Lipstick Under My Burkha denied certification: Revising Committee of CBFC has denied Prakash Jhas Lipstick My Burkha certification. This committee was headed by Pahlaj Nihalani. The film is very much directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, has Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles. The news has almost shocked everyone especially all movie lovers when the letter was received by the production house on twitter.
The reaction was to be seen, it ranged from anger, shock and disgust. Few also reacted by seeing all the spelling mistakes on the letter. Although Prakash Jha is a very calm person. One can say he is face of calm in the storm. Also he will be more confident that the film will hit the theatres in India. Prakash Jha in one of the Interviews also spoke about his battle with the censor board. He said that his movie, “The warm welcome Lipstick under My Burkha” has received award internationally.
Prakash Jha explains that filmmakers and producers usually don’t waste their effort and money on projects that are not credible, or accept to produce content that is not worthy. He is famous and popular for his movies like Jai Gangaajal, Satyagraha, Aarakshan and Raajneeti and has won several National Award – winning documentaries. Lipstick Under My Burkha is a great film one must watch, it has won and received great response internationally and has been awarded at Tokyo International Festival and the esteemed Oxfam India. He also pointed out saying Alankrita is in fact in Glasgow right now, for the premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival,”
Battling it out for his film with the censor boards is nothing new for Prakash Jha. He has also gone a few rounds with the CBFC for films named Jai Gangaajal, Chakravyuh, and Rajneeti. I also feel that Nihalani and the committee have done their part. Prakash jha also feels that he is not targeted by the censor board, even though I have faced issues with the CBFC Board.
Films were previously given A certificates or U/A with all the necessary cuts but this time it was refused certification point blank. Prakash Jha was not present when the revising committee made the decision but the director of the film Alankrita Shrivastava was very much present .Infact Prakash Jha said that I was not present but Alankrita was present and there was no communication made regarding the denial , also there were no cuts , and nor did they explain the grounds clearly .
Director Jai Gangaajal is also very confident that the film will be released in the country. Director Jai has decided that he will move the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) for clearance of the film and this will work for them.
